Our Final Week of Preparations!

Hey everyone! We have a very full schedule this week to offer all of you! We are holding a series of workshops to better prepare all of us! These workshops are designed to empower volunteers to have the ability to function as key members within the movement. We advise you try and make as many of these Workshops as you can!

The system is broken and I appreciate your desire to fix it. However, I hesitate to throw my hat in the ring of any movement, no matter how just their core principles, without first knowing what they aspire to accomplish. What is your end game? I have little interest in a 'military adventurism' style of occupation lacking an exit strategy. A collective voice is a powerful tool if it speaks with purpose. If it's no more than a crowd of noisy people I might as well hang out at the mall.

Hey Wisdom!

We hear this a lot, and we understand peoples hesitant nature towards what seems such a RADICAL movement. However, the origin of the word RADICAL means TO GET TO THE ROOT.  What Occupy Toronto and the current organizers wish to accomplish right now is get to October 15th and see you, your friends, your barber, the cook from the diner down the street, that guy you always see walking home - what his name again? We want to see you talking about the issues. Through talking and than meeting at a General Assembly, which is a horizontal direct democratic process that empowers individuals to GET TO THE ROOT of our problems. Only if you come and participate in Occupy Toronto, will we establish our end game, our goals. We as organizers cannot decide for you, only you! So we hope this has some clarity about what we are trying to accomplish.

Hey I was wondering if you have to make it to the general assembly to take part, I can't make it on the 7th.

Anyone can come and go as they please. The Assembly on the 7th is more organizational to focus on where we are in terms of logistic, media, legal aid, and a large amount of other information as well as ideas. We were hoping to offer talks about our proposed demands, however we have removed that from the table for the Assembly on the 7th. We’ll begin addressing the issues within workgroups and the General Assembly on Oct 15th and onwards!

Official Update to The General Assembly of OccupyTO - Known Needs

Our Logistics committee has put together a table with our known needed resources. Please note that this will be constantly changing and we will work our best to update this list for you.

The following items are vital to the movement

Heat Generator 

Tarps

Hot Paws (We also recommend you bring your own supply)

Thermal Blankets

Sleeping Bags - Large to XL (If you are occupying bring your own, although extras in case of emergency will rule!)

Cardboard - We need a lot of cardboard to protect from the wet ground, as well for our signs.

Cold/Flu Medicine or Remedies - So we can help individuals who are uncomfortable

First Aid Kits - We cannot express how important these are! If you have anything, please assist us!

Mobile Wifi Adapter - A number of these are needed to help keep the livestream and media centre running! We won’t be able to show the world our solidarity without them!

If you are able to assist in the procurement of these or similar items, or if you have an idea for another item the movement will need, PLEASE contact occupyTOlogistics@gmail.com and we will arrange further details.

They knew that if you ever turned your eye towards political reform, you could change the world. They tried to keep you sated on vapid television shows and vapid music. They cut off your education and fed you brain candy. They took away your music and gave you Top Ten pop stations. They cut off your art and replaced it with endless reality shows for you to plug into, hoping you would sit quietly by as They ran the world. I think they thought you were too dumb to notice. Indeed, I thought They had won. But I watched you occupy the capital of Wisconsin. I see you today as you occupy Wall Street. And I see a spark, a glimmer of the glorious new age that is yours. A changing of the guard, a guard that has stood for entirely too long and needs your young legs to take his place. I watch you turn away from what is easy and stand up for what is right. I see you understand we as a society are only as strong as our weakest link. I see you wise beyond your years. And I am proud. Give ‘em hell, kids. You are beautiful.

Anyone with eyes open knows that the gangsterism of Wall Street — financial institutions generally — has caused severe damage to the people of the United States (and the world). And should also know that it has been doing so increasingly for over 30 years, as their power in the economy has radically increased, and with it their political power. That has set in motion a vicious cycle that has concentrated immense wealth, and with it political power, in a tiny sector of the population, a fraction of 1%, while the rest increasingly become what is sometimes called “a precariat” — seeking to survive in a precarious existence. They also carry out these ugly activities with almost complete impunity — not only too big to fail, but also “too big to jail.”

The courageous and honorable protests underway in Wall Street should serve to bring this calamity to public attention, and to lead to dedicated efforts to overcome it and set the society on a more healthy course.
